Every modular classroom delivery is unique, and this one was no exception. Our team recently transported a 28-metre-long modular classroom to Kirikiriroa School at Five Cross Roads in Hamilton, completing another complex move through careful planning, teamwork, and expert execution.
Planning the Journey
Getting a module of this size from the factory to its destination takes more than simply loading it onto a truck. The first challenge was safely exiting the factory and accessing the road network.
To do this, the transport team headed out of the factory gate, travelled south, and then reversed north onto the off-ramp before backing the entire module onto State Highway 1. While unusual, this was the only safe way to gain access to the highway.
From there, the journey continued south along State Highway 1 towards Ruakura, where the next set of challenges awaited.
Navigating Tight Spaces
The route included several pinch points that required precision and coordination. Streetlights and roadside signs had to be carefully managed, with signs temporarily removed where necessary to create enough clearance for the oversized load.
The team then expertly guided the classroom around multiple roundabouts, maintaining constant communication to ensure every movement was accurate and controlled.
Millimetre-Perfect Precision
The most demanding part of the delivery came as the team approached the school. Access into the street was incredibly tight, leaving just 50 millimetres of clearance from a power pole on one side and only 30 millimetres from a tree on the other.
Overhead power lines added another layer of complexity, requiring careful monitoring throughout the final approach.
These are the moments where experience makes all the difference. Every team member played a critical role, with clear communication and precise manoeuvring ensuring the building reached its destination safely.
